CULTURE / THE AFTERNOON SHOW

CATS SAVE NEIGHBORHOOD CINEMA. IT IS A WINDOW WITH A BIRD FEEDER.

The cabinet is moving. The audience is not.

Three cats sit together inside a low living-room window, watching birds at a feeder outside.

A planned living-room renovashun threatened the neighborhood’s favorite cinema this week: a low window overlooking a bird feeder. Three regulars formed an organizashun and sat precisely where the new cabinet was supposed to go.

The human relented. Afternoon screenings will continue, admishun remains free, and an extra cushion has been added for the oldest member of the audiense.

At the reopening, a cardinal arrived before the usual sparrows. Everyone leaned forward. There was no intermisshun, although Dennis fell asleep and had to be told what happened.
